The Winged Victory of Samothrace

Title: The Winged Victory of Samothrace
Paper: White printer paper, A4
Created: May 2013

An experiment of how the paper can emulate the folds of cloth. Can be considered an early try of box-pleating. I wanted to fold a harpy, and ended up unable to obtain wings long enough when I had to fold a head. The Victory of Samothrace was a nice variation that didn’t require folding the details of a head, and I was able to experiment feathers and cloth pleats.

The Winged Victory of Samothrace is a marble sculpture representing Nike, the Goddess of victory. It was the figurehead of a stone ship, and is currently exposed at the Louvre (Paris).
